Finally, the day has come. You looked at your loan account only to find there’s no more debt to pay. Like Dobby from Harry Potter, you finally get to experience the exhilarating feeling of freedom!
But what do you do with it? If you’re scratching your heads for ideas to celebrate, don’t worry! We have several suggestions to help you conjure up the perfect way to rejoice.
6 Great Ways to Celebrate No More Debt
Paying off a debt can feel akin to winning the lottery. Gone are the shackles of a monthly bill after you pay your dues. Your monthly payment is now money back in your pocket.
However, not all of us may be quite there yet. If you’re still trying to find your way out of debt, there are some tips you can view here to help you through it. Until then, take notes!
We have six suggestions on what to do after paying off a debt.
1. Plan the Vacation You Always Wanted
Many debts take years, and sometimes even decades, to pay off. During that time, you scrimp and you save in order to whittle down what you owe. Now it’s your turn.
Spend some of your hard-earned money on you! Plan and take the vacation you always wanted. Whether it’s a trip overseas or simply a trip to a nearby beach, let yourself indulge.
But wait, won’t that put you back into debt? Not if you’re clever about your planning! There are many ways to make your dream vacation affordable.
Identify what it is you want to do, then save the money that you used to put toward monthly payments for the trip you yearn to take. It may take a little time but it will be worth the adventure.
2. Use Your Payment Amount to Buy Something You’ve Put Off
Aggressively paying off our loans requires many sacrifices. Think about all of the things you said no to or decided not to buy so you could pay off your debts. Which one of them was the hardest?
Pick one thing you want to go back and get, then buy it for yourself. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. The purchase may be as simple as a book that called to you from the store’s shelf or a piece of clothing that had you staring longingly through the window.
Go back and buy it for yourself. You may find yourself amazed at how good it feels to make it your own!
3. Take the Day Off and Spoil Yourself a Little
When was the last time you took a day off? Not just a day without work but a day that was truly yours to do as you will? Give yourself a chance to enjoy a “you” day.
Take out a sheet of paper or open up the notepad on your phone and brainstorm what you would do with a day to yourself. Forget about the chores that need to be done or the naps you miss out on during the week. Dig deeper.
Where do you love to go?
What activities make you feel most alive?
Imagine your ideal day, then find a way to make it real. No matter where you are in life or what your situation is, you deserve 24 hours to set aside your responsibilities and worries and simply enjoy life.
Don’t want to embark on your adventure solo? Invite your friends! A spa party is a great way to pamper yourself while enjoying great company.
4. Have a Meal at the Restaurant You Skipped to Save Money
Indulging in good food is an age-old way to celebrate. Is there a place you love to eat or have been dying to try, but you skipped out on it in order to keep a tight budget? If so, pick up the phone and make a reservation.
If you need to wait a few months and put away the funds that used to go to your debt payment in order to afford the restaurant you want, do it. Don’t compromise on your menu selection!
This is your chance to treat yourself. Save to splurge if you have to, but make sure your restaurant adventure is everything you desired.
5. Pay It Forward By Treating Someone Else
Finally getting out from underneath a debt you’ve carried for many years can be an emotional feat. Perhaps you want to spread the joy and the relief you feel from this accomplishment on to someone else. Celebrating your financial freedom by helping someone else is a great idea.
Think about the people in your life right now who could use a helping hand. Are they going through a hardship? Could they use a friend?
Celebrate your joy through random acts of kindness for others. Perhaps it’s buying a cup of coffee for a co-worker who hasn’t slept much lately. Or perhaps you are thinking of something bigger.
Maybe you want to take the money that once went to your monthly payment and donate to a person or cause.
Whatever you choose to do, know that joy often feels best when shared with someone else.
6. Make the Celebration Official with a Cake
If nothing on this list appeals to you or you simply want to keep it simple, go the traditional route! Celebrate with cake or your favorite dessert.
You can buy it from your favorite bakery or make it an experience by creating one from scratch! Invite your friends over and make a day of it. A sweet treat surrounded by great company is just icing on the cake!
